Yes people, I'm back in school! Hahaa. Actually, this was my second day. Only had to attend one lecture today. Went hunting for Biochemistry and Instrumental Analysis textbooks with Suzan. Well, I got my Biochemistry textbook (which was quite pricey) and the weird thing was: neither the college bookshop nor U-Text (college bookshop nemesis, located just outside the campus walls) had the Instrumental Analysis main textbook. How can not any of these bookshops have this particular textbook when it's the main text for a heavy, core subjects? ANOTHER odd thing was, the bookshop people haven't even got a clue on what textbook we were talking about.

My dad flew off to Hong Kong (YET) again this morning.. had some business to do. Probably won't be back until weeks later. Thank God for Skype for free online telephone so it won't be expensive for us to call our dad (and vice versa). Messed around with photoshop in the evening and came up with this (look below). Well, I'm not a die-hard fan of Constantine BUT I thought he was one of the more oustanding, talented and deserving ones to get at least a Top 4 placing together with Carrie, Bo and Vonzell... rather than Scott Savol and Anthony Federov (the latter doesn't irritate me as much).

  • Just some blog stuff for some supposedly personality analyzing by just analyzing your birthday... freaky. But all these stuffs are just plain entertaining to read when you're as bored as me. Peace..

    Your Birthdate: April 17
Your birth on the 17th day of the month suggests that you are very lucky financially, because this date indicates a solid business sense. Although you are probably very honest and ethical, this birthday enables you to be shrewd and successful in the world of business and commercial enterprise. You have excellent organizational, managerial, and administrative capabilities enabling you to handle large projects and significant amounts of money with relative ease. You are ambitious and highly goal-oriented, although you may be better at starting projects than you are at finishing them. A sensitivity in your nature, often repressed below the surface of awareness, makes it hard to give or receive affection.

Aahhh... Haven't updated the blog for a long time. I'm not really a blog person. I, actually, forgot about this blog until I got an email, saying that Sue Nee (an old friend from high school) a.k.a. Susu (her famous nick) had posted in my guestbook! Heheh. Kinda surprised cuz we haven't heard from each other, as in directly, since graduating high school. You won't believe how she found my blog.. BY GOOGLING HER NAME! I had written her name in some survey entry in this blog some time back. So there..

Following her interesting idea, I decided to google my own name as well. Several entries were familiar, e.g. my personal website, my blog at blogspot, my xanga blog, Suet Wan's xanga blog...

    Then...
#1) I didn't know there was a town in East Timor called Daesi! Wow, a town named after me.. *ahem hem, perasan case oledi* . It's a really small town you know, with population of only 7000-8000.
#2) There's this other interesting discovery: DAESI stands for Diploma in Agricultural Extension Services for Input dealers (God knows what the diploma is about). And also stands for Departamento de Asuntos Económicos y Sociales Internacionales. I don't speak Spanish so, can't explain what that stands for.. department blank blank economics blank social international.
#3) Then in this Everquest game, there's a dark elf character named Daesi.. Hhhhmmmmm... last time I checked, my ears ain't nothing like an elf's.
#4) Some website owned by a Korean or Japanese company owns http://www.daesi.com/ and http://www.daesi.net/ . Hmph, sue them for using my name?
#5) According to this website, Daesi is supposedly one of the celtic tribes of Europe.
#6) Daesi, a street name in Myanmar.. Thought I would come across this one. One of my Myanmese ex-classmates in Bible college told me before that there IS a road with my name in Myanmar. Heheh.

Okay, back to my daily life. The downstairs pc got reformatted last Monday AND lost the game data for Sims 2.. which MEANS I have to start the game from scratch. Argh!! Those Sim-beings I've grown from bawling baby to a cranky oldie, have to start playing them again from the bawling baby stage. Sigh. At least there are some positive points.. the game loads and moves faster after reformatting. Have I mentioned that this downstairs pc actually had 17 viruses attack, all at once, and still not crash?

And got my timetable for my next semester.. one word.. HORRENDOUS! Hope I got the spelling right.. ever since I left school, my English has been deteriorating to the point of not being to spell simple words like "necessary", I wrote "nesscessary". Anyway, next semester's timetable? Everyday classes ends at 5 or 6 pm, have 8 am lectures on Mon, Wed and Fri, just one hour lunch break and.. and.. and.... Wwaaaaaaahhhhh, I dunwanna go back to ssskkeeewwlll!

    Kelly Clarkson
    (Breakaway)

Comments: This is definitely the BEST album to have come from Kelly Clarkson yet. Thousand times better than her debut IMO, which was such a bore to listen to. I don't know what is the hype about her being Avril Lavigne wannabe, but IMO, this album is definitely 100% Kelly (and 0% Avril) in every way.. sounds like her, utilizes her full wide vocal range to the best and the max, shows her versatility, you can feel a whole lot of her personality in here. It's definitely one of my better investments in my CD collection.
    Rating (out of 5): ****
Good tracks: Breakaway, Behind these hazel eyes, Gone

    Il Divo
    (Il Divo)

Comments: What do you get when you put 4 good looking guys from 4 different countries, with opera voices singing pop songs? Aiyiyi! :P I mean, Il Divo.. a group formed by Simon Cowell. My sister and I bought this album the day after we watched them perform in the Oprah show. They were so good, we just had to. Well, this album isn't so bad for a debut, BUT it wasn't very appealing either. Not so much variety in there. Midway listening to this album, my mind just simply drifted off. More recommended for those who dig classical and opera music.
    Rating (out of 5): ***
Good tracks: Regresa A Mi (Unbreak my heart), Mama

    Rob Thomas
    (Something to be)

Comments: Usually I'll only buy an album after hearing at least 3-4 good tracks from it (very picky), but I just love Rob Thomas and his music so much, I just got it and I love it to bits! This album is by far among the best debut album I've come across. Firstly, I admire originality.. in this album? Every track is penned by Rob Thomas himself. There are many different sound effects and mixes used in each song, and no two tracks sound alike. There are country, pop, rock, Latin, hip-hop and even some Asian flavour in it. I can say this album is full of pleasant surprises.
    Rating (out of 5): ***3/4
Good tracks: Lonely no more, Something to be, Fallin' to pieces, Streetcorner Symphony

    Altered Frequency
    (Exalt)

Comments: Just in case some of you don't know, Altered Frequency is a local (Malaysian) Christian band. This album had been out for a while already.. I've just got it in the "Heal the Nation" concert in GTPJ just over a month ago. This album is good and easy listening. There are songs of worship, of praise, of desire and of celebration. Regretted not buying this album much earlier, but hey, glad it's in my collection now. Even my brother is "kidnapping" (kidnapping bcoz he doesn't ask me permission) this CD from me every now and then for his own CD player. Reminds me, better go claim it back from my bro.
    Rating (out of 5): ***1/2
Good tracks: Give it all away, Running back to You, No

Phew.. after 4 gruelling papers, I'm OFFICIALLY on holiday! Yay! Heheheh. Okay.. okay, the papers weren't that bad.. I was exaggerating :P

Business Statistics >>> Expected. Why? Basically the questions are repetitive of the past years', only that they change the numbers and certain perspective here and there. Other than that, ditto. Imagine my 'sien'-ness during this paper. I was just repeating myself here and there.. finished the paper an hour before time. Spent my sweet time checking through the paper and sleeping a little.

Fundamentals of Biotechnology >>> No time. Why? Hehe.. doesn't that explain itself? Well yeah, we were sort of the guinea-pig-batch cuz the paper had a "revamped" format. Answer 18 questions in at least one paragraph (and can go up till 5 paragraphs) in 180 minutes. Mad? Maddd... I was reading the question once through, highlighting keywords and then scribbling away everything that came to my mind! Sort of like spilling everything I had stuffed into my head for the whole week prior to the exam. And the worst of all, NO TIME to recheck my answers. When the head invigilator said "stop writing", I was on my last word of my last question. Pity.. really am most anxious of the marks I'll get for this paper.

Biology II >>> Was not as hard as Biology I paper last semester BUT you'll NEVER know. The weirdest things happen during exams. When you think you breezed through the paper and will most probably score an A, it turns out the other way round. And when you think you're gonna fail the paper, suddenly you get an A or a B. This, is one of those kind of papers.. the lecturers LOVE to set traps here and there. Sigh. Why do they have to make our lives so difficult?!?!?!? ........ plainly because they're paid to do so, chuckles..

Chemistry II >>> Also not as difficult as Chemistry I. I wouldn't say that I breezed through the paper, but I can say that I could answer all of the questions (except for maybe 1 or 2 sub-questions). For Chemistry I, I could barely answer half the paper... that paper was super tough and way tougher than Chemistry II. Only God knows why. I only scored 55 for Chem I, which was really depressing but also relieving at the same time. Why? Chem I holds the record of the most Monash students failing (record to date: 60% failure). And to have a pass or a near pass for that matter, is such a relief. Anyway, for Chem II, I hope to see better marks this time.

That's it! Holiday for 3 weeks and then I begin my sophomore year on July 18.. So during these 3 weeks, probably will post more frequently. Heheh.

Already Watched

+ GI Joe [A-]
+ The movie was awesome! Except for the last 10 to 15 minutes or so which left me going "Huh?". My guess is the confusing last 15 minutes is going to be very significant in the sequel. On an end note, Lee Byung-Hun is hawt!!

+ Ghosts of Girlfriend's Past [C+]
+ It was a pretty funny comedy. I'm not sure if it's a romantic comedy? It felt more like a parody for laughs rather than a romance-themed one. Which is OK by me coz I don't really dig romantic comedy, save for My Best Friend's Wedding.

+ Ice Age: Dawn of the Dinosaurs [C]
+ Mostly boring at parts. Entertaining at some points. But I won't be remembering anything about this movie, except for the chest hair waxing part.

+ Departures [A+]
+ Loved this movie right from the beginning until the end. Why? I really can't explain it in words. You have to watch it to know why. A movie about dead bodies can be beautiful and not a teeny-weeny bit eerie ^_^

+ Full Metal Alchemist [B+]
+ I liked the story from the beginning until the middle part. Then after episode 34 or something, it began to become weird and unintelligent. Still watchable. But I hated the ending. It was too fast, too weird and disappointedly not enough action. I am hoping Brotherhood will be better since it's sticking to the manga.
